Trash removal

Waste Management is the only refuse hauler permitted to operate in Jefferson Township. All residents must call in to Waste Management to set up an account, 614-833-9111. Collection days are Tuesdays. The following holidays will delay pick-up by one day if the holiday occurs on a Tuesday, New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. Effective October 1, 2007, a monthly base rate at $15.11, plus an additional fuel charge includes residential waste, recycling and yard waste removal. A large 96-gallon wheeled cart is not required, but is available for an additional $2.00 per month. You should call ahead if you intend to dispose of a large item. Appliances containing CFC's (freon) such as air conditioners, dehumidifiers, refrigerators etc. need to be tagged by a certified technician stating the freon has been removed

Special information for recyclable and yard waste collections:
Drivers may leave recyclables and yard waste if it appears to them that there is any sort of trash co-mingled in with the yard waste or recyclables. Place yard waste in special bags marked for that purpose, or use a clearly marked container. Place yard waste on the opposite side of your driveway away from trash. Do not place trash bags on top of recycling bins. Make sure recyclables are not placed in opaque bags. One additional recycling bin is available free of charge by calling Waste Management's Customer Service Department.

If you have questions, need additional services or want to report a complaint; email or phone Waste Management's Customer Service Department, at csohio@wm.com or call 614-833-9111, Monday - Friday 7AM-6:30PM, Saturday 8AM-2PM. WM's website is wm.com. To register a complaint with the Township Office, contact Janis Bowling at 855-4260, and she will address the complaint with Waste Management. Jefferson has the ability to fine Waste Management for poor performance.

Annually, SWACO and several local government jurisdictions hold mobile household hazardous waste collection events. Mobile events are held Spring through Fall, Saturdays from 8AM-2PM.
