Parks Board sponsors Community Gardens for the first time!

Gardeners with not enough room to plant all they please will be happy this season! For the first time in Jefferson Township, they will be able to rent a plot of ground for a modest price and grow all the fresh produce and flowers they want! The gardens will be installed at the Schneider Home, a farmstead owned by Jefferson Township on Havens Corners Road between Reynoldsburg New Albany and Waggoner Roads. The historic site contains a 1918 kit home, large barn and outbuildings and was the site of the Jefferson Community Farmers Market in 2006. The Community Garden plots are available on a first-come, first-served basis, with the first planting day set for May 1, weather permitting. The gardens will remain open to gardeners 7 days a week through the first heavy frost (when temperatures sink to 28 degrees for at least 5 hours). Parking, an informational bulletin board, recycling and compost bins will be provided. Water will be available, but may have to be carried short distances. All 2008 Community Garden Plots Have Been Reserved. We apologize if you did not get a garden plot this year. Jefferson Township looks forward to offering plots again in 2009. Want more info?
